Israeli forces shot a young Palestinian man near Hebron in the occupied West Bank on Monday, leaving him seriously injured.

A live round struck the Palestinian in his abdomen amid confrontations in the Fawwar refugee camp, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA cited local and security sources as saying.

Israeli forces also deployed tear gas, leaving dozens struggling to breathe. They were treated at the scene.

Israeli forces routinely carry out deadly attacks in the West Bank, with over 200 Palestinians being killed in the occupied territory and besieged Gaza Strip since the start of the year.

Earlier this month, Israeli forces carried out a two-day assault on Jenin refugee camp killing 12 people and conducting airstrikes in the West Bank for the first time in 20 years.

The cities of Jenin and Nablus in particular have been heavily targeted by Israeli military raids.

Israel has occupied the West Bank since the 1967 war and has built hundreds of settlements there in violation of international law.

The settlements have carved up Palestinian territory and are viewed as a key barrier to creating a viable Palestinian state and achieving peace.
