Israeli war planes launched three overnight air raids on Gaza following a mortar attack from the besieged territory.

Israel claims that the air raids hit Hamas infrastructure and that no-one was injured in the attack.

"[Israel] hold Hamas responsible and accountable for all attacks emanating from the Gaza Strip," the Israeli military said in a statement.

The mortar round was fired from the Palestinian territory on Wednesday and hit a field close to the Gaza border causing no injuries.

A number of rockets and mortar rounds from Palestinian militant groups have hit Israel over the past few months, leading to "retaliatory" air raids on the besieged territory.

One Instagram user posted a picture of an attack last night in the Shujaaiyya neighbourhood of Gaza City.
