The Israeli army on Saturday killed at least 30 Palestinians and wounded over 100 others by bombing a field hospital inside a school in central Gaza, according to the Palestinian ministry of health.

The attack targeted the hospital at the Khadija school in Deir Al-Balah, with Gaza's government media office saying the attack used three missiles from warplanes.

"These ongoing massacres carried out by the Zionist occupation [Israel] come amid the collapse of the health system and the destruction and burning of hospitals, leaving them out of operation, and amid immense pressure on the medical teams and what remains of the operating rooms," the media office said.

It condemned "the Zionist occupation carrying out this horrific massacre against a field hospital providing medical services to dozens of patients and injured people", adding that they were all civilians.

The media office held Israel and the US administration fully responsible for the continuation of the massacres against displaced people and civilians, The New Arab's Arabic edition Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported.

It called for the on the international community, the United Nations, the various international organisations, and all countries of the free world to "pressure the Zionist occupation and the American administration to stop the war of genocide and halt the streaming bloodshed in the Gaza Strip".

The Israeli military claimed that the air force "targeted a command and control complex" belonging to Hamas that was "hidden" within the Khadija school complex.

Israel's ongoing war on Gaza has killed at least 39,258 people, according to the Palestinian enclave's health ministry.

Since 6 July at least eight schools – including the latest one – have been targeted leaving more than 100 people dead, based on a tally of tolls given by the health ministry and a hospital source.

With most of Gaza's 2.4 million people displaced at least once during the war, many have sought refuge in school buildings including the one hit on Saturday.
