The granddaughter of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh has succumbed to wounds sustained in an Israeli strike that targeted her family last week, Palestinian sources reported on Monday.

The child Malak battled for her life after she was left with serious injuries from the Israeli strike that killed her father and two of his brothers in Gaza on Tuesday, along with four of Haniyeh's grandchildren.

The family was visiting relatives during the first day of the Muslim Eid al-Fitr holiday at the Shati refugee camp in Gaza City when their car was targeted in an Israeli air strike.

"The blood of my sons is not dearer than the blood of our people," Haniyeh, 61, who has 13 sons and daughters according to Hamas sources, told pan-Arab Al Jazeera TV at the time.

Sixty of Haniyeh's relatives had been killed in the six-month-old war, including 14 who died after an Israeli air strike hit the family home in Gaza City in October.

Last week, the Hamas leader said the attack would not change the group’s demands for a permanent ceasefire and return of displaced Palestinians from their homes in ongoing negotiations mediated by Doha and Washington.

"All our people and all the families of Gaza have paid a heavy price in blood, and I am one of them," Haniyeh said.

Israel confirmed it had targeted Haniyeh's sons, who it described as "three Hamas operatives" who were "on their way to carry out terrorist activities".

Israel's relentless and indsicriminate onslaught on the besieged Gaza Strip has killed over 33,700 people - mostly women and children - and left at least 76,465 injured.
