Numerous homepages of Israeli schools, hospitals and municipalities displayed pictures of Friday's protests in Gaza, emblazoned with "Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine" and accompanied by muezzin chants, after being hacked by cyber group Anonymous on Tuesday evening.

The self-proclaimed "hacktivist" group managed to access the sites of the Israeli teachers' union and the Israeli Opera website, as well as the municipality websites of Kfar Saba, Herzliya, Eilat, Akka and the Hillel Yaffe Medical Centre

The hacked pages also displayed "we will not forget our fallen", written in Arabic.

Anonymous have a history of cyber attacks against Israel to protest against its actions in the West Bank and especially Gaza.

Friday's demonstrations to commemorate Land Day turned into a bloodbath as Israeli snipers shot peaceful protesters, killing 17 people. The incident is widely being treated as a massacre with over 800 Palestinians wounded by live ammunition, and at least 800 more injured from rubber-coated steel bullets and tear gas inhalation.
