The first Qatari soldier to be wounded during military operations in Yemen has been brought back to the capital, Doha, officials revealed on Friday.

Hamad bin Saad Al-Marri is currently receiving treatment at the Hamad General Hospital.

On Friday morning, Qatari newspapers published photographs and an interview conducted by the Qatar News Agency with the wounded soldier, who had sustained injuries to his feet.

The soldier said he was initially wounded during an attack on a Houthi rebel position.

Marri said he did not report his injury at first, "to avoid affecting the morale" of his comrades.

However, he was subsequently hit again. He decided to fall back and tend to his wounds.

Marri said the Qatari Command in Yemen was determined to fly him back to Doha for treatment.

However, he stressed that he intended to return to the front after he recuperates, he said, "to resume and complete the mission", alongside his Qatari and Gulf comrades fighting the Houthi rebels.

"We will continue to fight and will not leave the battle until victory is achieved, rights are restored, and security and stability are returned to Yemen," he told QNA.

Qatar deployed nearly 1,000 soldiers to take part in the Saudi-led war in Yemen, whose stated goal is restoring the government in Yemen, and repelling the rebellion by the Houthis and supporters of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Qatar has also deployed fighter jets, which have been taking part in air raids against Houthi and pro-Saleh militia since the Arab coalition intervened in Yemen in March.
