Egypt and Turkey have appointed ambassadors to each other's capitals in order to restore normal diplomatic relations between them, the Egyptian foreign ministry spokesman said on Tuesday.

Egypt nominated Amr Elhamamy to become its ambassador in Ankara while Turkey nominated Salih Mutlu Sen to become its ambassador in Cairo, the Egyptian foreign ministry added.

The appointments come after Turkish President Ergodan and Egyptian President Sisi agreed to restart diplomatic relations in May.

Diplomatic ties between the two countries had been cut in 2013, following the ousting of President Mohammed Morsi by the Egyptian military, led by then-army chief Sisi.

He was elected the following year, with Morsi dying in prison in 2019.
