A prosecutor's office in Egypt has released two nurses and a young man accused of filming and spreading videos of the dead body of femicide victim Naira Ashraf.

The South Mansoura Public Prosecution Office decided on Tuesday to release the individuals after they paid bail of 70,000 Egyptian pounds ($3,655) each, after the clips – showing the victim’s stab wounds - leaked online.

Ashraf was brutally murdered by her classmate Mohamed Adel on 20 June outside the Mansoura college campus after she had repeatedly turned down his marriage proposals.

Her killing sparked mass outrage across Egypt.

After video emerged  showing her body in a morgue at the Mansoura general hospital Ashraf’s father filed a complaint against the facility.

The Ministry of Interior said the video was made on June 20.

A court in Mansoura initially sentenced the three accused individuals to six months in prison and a fine of 50,000 thousand Egyptian pounds ($2,610) each. The court acquitted a fourth defendant – also a nurse – in the case.

Authorities attended the hospital to review CCTV footage and documents concerning Ashraf, including information about the medical staff who dealt with her, before they summoned the staff for questioning.

The prosecution also commissioned specialised technology officers to examine links online and identify those responsible for sharing the video.

Last month, an Egyptian court sentenced Adel, who confessed to Ashraf’s horrific killing, to death by hanging.
