Egypt may soon receive five million doses of Kazakhstan’s QazVac Covid-19 vaccine, pending Egyptian Drug Authority approval.

The announcement came during a meeting between Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and acting Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, and Kazakhstan’s ambassador Khairat Lama Sharif earlier this week.

The pair met in Cairo to discuss cooperation on vaccines and broader medical matters, Arab News reported on Sunday.

Abdel Ghaffar said that Egyptian authorities would soon begin the registration and approval process for the QazVac jab.

The minister and the Kazakh envoy also discussed mutual recognition of vaccination certificates, as well as travel between the two countries.

Egypt currently produces the Chinese Sinovac coronavirus vaccine and aims to manufacture more than one billion of the vaccines annually.
