Dozens of angry demonstrators took to the streets to demand the closure of the Israeli embassy in Amman on Friday.

The march began at Kalouti Mosque after Friday prayers, where demonstrators marched to the Israeli embassy. Because of its proximity to the Israeli embassy, the Mosque has a reputation for being a hub for anti-Jordanian-Israeli normalisation protests.

They also called for the cancellation of the gas agreement that Jordan signed with Israel last September, which caused much anger across the country.

The demonstrators called for the abolition of the Wadi al-Araba Peace Treaty signed in 1994 which took Jordan and Israel out of a 46-year state of war.

Jordan has seen a rise in public anger toward Israel following the killing of two Jordanian citizens by security attaché at the Israeli embassy.

Last week thousands protested in Jordan on Tuesday during the funeral of a teenager killed by a security guard at Israel's embassy in Amman.

Mohammed Jawawdeh, 17, was shot dead late on Sunday after allegedly attacking the Israeli security guard with a screwdriver.

A Jordanian doctor was also killed accidentally during the incident.

The killings caused a diplomatic crisis between Israel and Jordan at a time of rising tensions around security restrictions at the al-Aqsa mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem.
