Child protester dies in Sudan after being shot in the head during anti-coup march
A child protester has died of injuries sustained in an anti-coup march that was attacked by Sudanese forces in the city of Omdurman on Thursday.
Thirteen-year-old Ahmad Maqam al-Din died late on Sunday after attempts to treat him in intensive care for a bullet wound to the head failed, the Sudanese Central Doctors' Committee said.
He was wounded in Omdurman near Khartoum after security forces opened fire on the protesters.
Sudan has seen ongoing protests following a coup last October led by General Abdel Fattah Burhan, who chaired the Transitional Sovereignty Council against the civilian government of Prime Minister Abdulla Hamdok.
Eighty-eight protesters have since been killed and Ahmad's death brings the total number of children killed to 14, with hundreds more people injured.
The Doctors' Committee said in a statement that Sudanese security forces were still using live bullets against protesters.
The Sudanese Resistance Committees in Khartoum called for a new protest to take place on Monday, saying it would march to the Republican Palace and close off roads in Khartoum.
