Bus plunges off bridge in Egypt killing 14

Fourteen people were killed when a bus plunged off a bridge after colliding with a truck in Egypt, the health ministry said on Tuesday.

At least 42 others were injured in the accident that occurred in the province of Beni Suef, south of the capital Cairo, the ministry said in a statement.

It did not specify when the crash happened.

Traffic accidents are common in Egypt, where many roads are not well-maintained and regulations are laxly enforced.

Earlier this month, 43 people were killed and more than 100 wounded when two trains collided in the Egyptian coastal city of Alexandria.

The crash was described Egypt's deadliest rail accident in more than a decade.

Transport officials at the time said the collision was probably caused by a malfunction in the Port Said train that brought it to a halt.

In November 2013, a wedding party on a bus was hit by a train south of the capital. Twenty-seven people were killed in the collision.

In Egypt's deadliest train accident, in 2002, 373 people died when a fire ripped through a crowded train also south of the capital.
