Welcome to The New Arab's live blog on the "biggest" Israeli raid on the Jenin refugee camp in years. This live blog has now ended. Follow The New Arab on TwitterFacebook and Instagram for the latest news on the Jenin raid and its aftermath.

The death toll in Jenin, occupied West Bank has risen to five as Israeli forces used armoured vehicles, soldiers, and helicopters to carry out an assault on the city's refugee camp.

Witnesses said that military helicopters hit targets and if confirmed this would be the first time in over 20 years that such means have been used by Israel in the West Bank.

The Palestinian health ministry named the victims as 21-year-old Khaled Azam Asaasah, Qais Majdi Adel Jabareen, also 21, 29-year-old Qassam Faysal Abu Sariyeh, 19-year-old Ahmed Khaled Fayez Daraghmeh and Ahmad Youssef Saqer, who was only 15.

The ministry also stated that 91 individuals sustained injuries, including dozens in critical condition.

Many are being treated, notably in Jenin's Governmental Hospital.

The Israeli military claimed that the raid was carried out with the aim of capturing the son of a Palestinian leader detained in Israeli jails.
