Wanted man in Aleppo detonates grenade, injuring Syria regime troops

A wanted man detonated a bomb in the al-Shaar neighbourhood of the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, on Tuesday evening, injuring three regime troops, according to the regime's Ministry of Interior.

The man, who was reportedly accompanied by another individual, was allegedly wearing an explosive belt and was in  "possession of bombs and military weapons", according to a statement on the ministry’s Facebook page.

The men were allegedly in the neighbourhood to commit theft, when members of the regime’s Criminal Security Branch were called to arrest them, before one of the men detonated a grenade injuring them with shrapnel.

Despite the incident, the regime’s Criminal Security Branch managed to arrest the two men, and found them in possession of an explosive belt and claw pistol, as well as military bomb and narcotic pills, according to the Syrian Baladi News website.

The men were subsequently taken to Aleppo University Hospital to receive treatment, however, their condition remains unknown.

Areas under regime control have seen heightened rates of crime and a lack of security. Murders, looting, and drug-related incidents have taken place, while regime forces target Syrian civilians who oppose the Assad regime.

Kurdish-majority neighbourhoods of Aleppo have been placed under siege, with residents suffering what has been described as 'prison-like' conditions, as the regime tries to turn them against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters currently in control of these areas.

At least half a million people have been killed since the Syrian conflict began in 2011 with the brutal suppression of pro-democracy protests by the Assad regime.

Millions more Syrians have been displaced as a result of the conflict and 80% of Syrians now live in poverty.
