Al Araby TV launches new entertainment channel for families, young people
Al Araby TV will next month launch its second channel, Al Araby 2, according to a press statement issued by the media group on Monday.
Al Araby 2, which will begin broadcasting from Doha on 2 January, aims to be "a diverse entertainment and culture channel" targeted at younger people and suitable for family audiences, the statement read.
"Al Araby 2 seeks to provide distinctive cultural content to suit the diversity of tastes across the Arab world," Al Araby TV said in a statement.
With the opening of a second channel, Al Araby TV will be renamed "Al Araby: News" and focus on news, analysis, and investigations.
Pan-Arab broadcaster Al Araby TV launched in 2014 from London and is available in millions of homes across the Middle East and beyond.
It is part of the Qatar-based Fadaat Media network, of which The New Arab is also a member.
Al Araby TV, The New Arab, and Arabic-language newspaper and online site Al-Araby Al-Jadeed have been blocked in several Arab countries for their pro-democracy content.
Al Araby TV announced in October that it would be moving its headquarters from London to Qatar.
