Abu Dhabi police set rules for National Day car decorations
Authorities in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi have instructed motorists to respect a number of regulations when decorating their vehicles to celebrate their country's National Day.
Drivers can embellish their vehicles between 28 November and 6 December, according to an Abu Dhabi police statement.
Authorities warned motorists that they will be fined if they do not comply with this time frame.
The UAE's National Day falls on 2 December and marks the formal unity of the emirates 50 years ago.
Drivers are prohibited from putting decorations which may obstruct their vision. They are also banned from installing flagpoles, covering their vehicles' number plates, changing the original colour of their cars or using confetti sprays.
Police have also warned drivers against overcrowding their vehicles with decorations, sticking their bodies out of car windows, or going on the roof of moving vehicles.
The use of camels and horses on public roads - a common scene in parts of the desert Gulf - is also prohibited.
Authorities have also asked residents not to litter or obstruct the flow of traffic and public transportation.
