More than 125,000 people have been displaced since the start of the battle to retake Mosul, Iraq's second-largest city, from the Islamic State group.

Following months of build-up in which the city was surrounded by Iraqi troops, Iranian-backed paramilitaries, and Turkish-supported fighters - under the aerial cover of the United States air force - the offensive has raged since October.
