Watch: Who is Ghanim Al Muftah, star of the Qatar World Cup 2022 opening ceremony?
This is his story.
Ghanim Al Muftah, 22, stole the show at the opening ceremony of the Qatar World Cup 2022, sharing the stage with American actor Morgan Freeman.
But who is Ghanim Al Muftah?
Ghanim is a young activist and YouTuber, very well-known in the Gulf. He was born with a rare condition known as Caudal Regression Syndrome (CDS).
But his condition could not stop his dreams.
Today he is an influencer inspiring millions of people. A huge social media star, he has more than seven million followers on TikTok, 3.3 million on Instagram and close to a million on YouTube.
Despite his condition, Ghanim is active in demanding sports such as scuba diving, skateboarding and rock climbing.
The young Qatari recited a verse from the Quran and with Freeman welcomed the world in a segment themed around unity and tolerance.
After reciting from the Quran, he said: "We were raised to believe that we were scattered on this earth as nations and tribes, so we could learn from each other and find beauty in our differences."
"I can see it," Freeman replied.
"What unites us here, in this moment, is so much greater than what divides us. How can we make it last longer than just today?" "With tolerance and respect, we can live together under one big home," Ghanim replied.
In April, Ghanim was named a FIFA World Cup 2022 ambassador. The young man has a dream to become a diplomat: he currently studies political science at university.
