Israel struck Hamas positions in Gaza and placed sanctions on the Palestinian enclave, state factions said on Wednesday, as the Palestinian health ministry announced the death of a teenager killed by Israeli fire during a West Bank protest.

Israel conducted airstrikes targeting Hamas in southern Gaza after Palestinian militants launched rockets and explosive balloons into southern Israel, according to an AFP report.

Gaza authorities have not yet reported casualties.

Israel also announced it was reducing Gaza's fishing zone from 15 to 10 nautical miles "until further notice" with Palestinian fishermen facing death if they cross this border.

Also on Wednesday, a Palestinian teenager was killed by Israeli fire during clashes in the southern West Bank, according to a Palestinian health ministry statement cited by AFP.

Mohammed Al-Haddad, 17, was struck by a bullet in the heart during clashes in Hebron. He was pronounced dead when he arrived at a local hospital.

Israeli-Palestinian tensions rose since last month's announcement of US President Donald Trump Middle East peace plan.

The proposal elicited outrage across the Palestinian terrotories, as the plan is viewed as favoring Israel.

Demonstrations and clashes have erupted in Gaza and the West Bank since.
