Algeria's foreign minister travelled to Libya on Tuesday to meet figures from the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), according to the body's ministry of foreign affairs, as Algiers expands its diplomatic efforts in the war-torn country.

Algerian Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum met with his GNA counterpart Mohammed Taher Siala. The ministers are expected to hold a press conference later today, before the Algerian minister meets GNA President Fayez Al-Sarraj.

Earlier this month, Boukadoum visited Benghazi to meet the Libyan National Army's Khalifa Haftar and Abdullah Al-Thani, head of the interim government, backed by the House of Representatives, based in the east of Libya.

Last month, Algeria organised a meeting with Libya's neighbouring African countries to discuss the crisis.

Beyond Africa, EU countries agreed on Monday to a naval force to enact an arms embargo on Libya.
