Al-Qaeda drops Eid 'diss track' on Islamic State 'idiots'

Al-Qaeda's Yemen branch has released a song making fun of the Islamic State group amid an ongoing feud between the rival militant groups.

A media outfit liked to al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) released the nasheed titled "State of Idiots" this week as the Islamic festival of Eid al-Adha takes place.

"You state of idiots and scoundrels. You gang of criminality and corruption," the Islamic chant's lyrics go.

"You aren't an Islamic state, you're just Baghdadi's ragtag gang," it adds, referring to IS' leader.

The song also pledges to eradicate IS from Yemen and accuses the group of a wide range of transgressions.

AQAP also released footage presenting IS militants as idiots who struggle to deliver lines and act naturally while being filmed for the group's propaganda videos.

"Look at how they practise to appear spontaneous when in reality they are acting," a caption in the video reads.

The two extremists groups have long been at loggerheads and have recently clashed with each other.

AQAP is the transnational faction's biggest franchise and has expanded rapidly during the current conflict.

It poses a much greater threat than IS in Yemen, which has failed to embed itself or establish links with other local factions with the same success AQAP has achieved.
