Israel's Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu bragged that he was responsible for making sure the United States backs out of the Iran nuclear deal.

Israeli media released a video showing Netanyahu boasting that and other members of his far-right Likud party lobbied US President Donald Trump to back out of the infamous deal.

"We convinced the US president and I had to stand up against the whole world and come out against this agreement," Netanyahu said in the video aired by Kan.

"And we didn't give up," he added.

Netanyahu claimed his remarks are solely about the Iranian regime, not the people, despite the impact the sanctions have on ordinary civilians in the Islamic republic.

Trump last year withdrew from a multinational accord negotiated by his predecessor Barack Obama under which Iran drastically scaled back its nuclear program.

Trump, a staunch ally of Iran's rivals Israel and Saudi Arabia, instead imposed sweeping sanctions, including seeking to ban all Iranian oil exports in a bid to reduce the clerical regime's regional clout.
