Banners pledging Beirut's support for Game of Thrones' Jon Snow appear in Lebanon

Lebanon's capital has thrown its hat in the ring to support Jon Snow in the fight for the Iron Throne, as the premier of hit television show Game of Thrones' final season is just days away.

Banners mimicking political slogans popped up across Beirut on Tuesday night proclaiming the city's support for the character.

"The people of Beirut support Jon Snow in his battle against the White Walkers", read a poster hung from a foot bridge.

Another proclaimed: "May God protect you, Jon Snow."

It is not the first time Beirutis have pledged their dedication to the former King in the North.

When Snow was killed off four years ago in the show, a picture of the character, accompanied by lit candles, appeared in Beirut's Martyrs' Square.

Snow was later resurrected, and revelations about his true parentage last season fuelled hopes the character will end up on the Iron Throne by the end of the hit series.

"Cersei Lannister, be smart; our strength is in our unity," read a third banner.

Each banner was signed "The friends of Faysal Timrawi".

"It's only for fun," Timrawi, a Lebanese architect, told The Daily Star, explaining he had put up the banners with three of his friends.

"We've been waiting for two years for the final season."

At least one of the banners was taken down shortly after being put up, although that didn't stop photos of the slogan spreading quickly on social media.

Interior Minister Raya al-Hassan did not respond when asked by The Daily Star whether the minister had taken the banners down.

Timrawi has pledged that he and his friends will not give up their fight to spread support for Jon Snow across the city, having already put up another poster reading: "The White Walkers took down the banners... but we will not be silenced."

Timrawi explained: "What I meant by the White Walkers is the regime. I don’t understand why they removed it."
