An Omani student was fatally stabbed in London on Friday after reportedly being targeted by robbers for his Rolex watch, according to local media.

Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Araimi, 26, collapsed under a Christmas tree near the iconic Harrods department store at around midnight.

Al-Araimi and a friend were seen fleeing from the luxury department store after having dinner nearby, The Telegraph reported. The group was targeted by two men after leaving the restaurant, the report added.

A witness who spoke to The Telegraph said: "We saw one of them fall over under the Christmas tree on Hans Crescent. The base of the tree has a white box under it and we saw blood smeared across it.

"The guy with him who called the ambulance looked like he had been stabbed in the stomach."

Al-Araimi was found unconscious with a stab wound in his back. His friend was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The student's killing was one of three murders that came within a 12-hour period in London on Friday. The British capital has seen a total of 135 violent deaths so far this year, with knife crime having long been an issue of concern in the city.
