#JusticeForJamal: Remembering Jamal Khashoggi one year after his brutal murder

Friends, colleagues and activists paid tribute to Jamal Khashoggi on Wednesday one year after his brutal killing shocked the world.

In Istanbul, activists and friends gathered near Saudi Arabia's Consulate to remember the Saudi journalist on the anniversary of his horrifying killing by Saudi agents.

The memorial began just after 1:14pm (10:14am GMT) - the time that Khashoggi walked into the consulate on 2 October 2018 to collect documents to marry his Turkish fiancée, who was waiting for him outside.

He didn't come out again.

Colleagues paid tribute to Jamal Khashoggi, sharing touching memories of the journalist.

Friends who worked closely with Khashoggi also expressed sorrow on the anniversary of his death.

Human rights groups, meanwhile, organised a series of events calling for justice over his killing. Some included naming streets where Saudi embassies are located after the journalist.

Many vowed to continue the fight for justice for Khashoggi.

Others decried the lack of accountability over the premeditated murder.

Media rights groups praised his contribution to protecting the freedom of speech.
