A mob attacked the London home of disgraced former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Sunday, with police called in to prevent a break in.

The angry crowd attempted to break into the luxurious Mayfair property of Sharif with footage showing a shopping trolley being thrown at the ex-Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader's home.

Sharif served three terms as Pakistan's prime minister, and was briefly overthrown in a military coup in 1999.

After being re-elected when civilian rule was returned he was forced to step down in in 2017 after a court ruling disqualified him from office following corruption charges.

He was sentenced to ten years in jail on 8 July by a Pakistani court, in relation to his stylish London home.

Rival Tehreek-e-Insaf said they had nothing to do with the incident, after some media accused the Pakistan party's activists of being behind the attempted storming of the property.

"We are not associated in any way with the attack on Hussain Nawaz's residence or the related protest," a PTI UK spokesperson stated, adding that the party demands action be taken against the suspects
