Saudi authorities have arrested a Qatari citizen Nawaf Talal al-Rasheed, the National Committee for Human Rights in Qatar said in a statement issues on Saturday night.
The committee said the received a complaint from al-Rashid’s family who lost contact with their son yesterday when he was in Kuwait. The family expressed deep concern, as his whereabouts are currently unknown.
He was allegedly detained without any known charges or legal justification for his arrest.
The committee described the detention as a continuation of human rights violations that the Saudi authorities have recently committed against some citizens of the State of Qatar.
Social media users speculated that al-Rashid was 'lured' to Kuwait before his arrest and transferred to Saudi Arabia.
If true, al-Rashid would be the second Qatari citizen to be arrested in the last month.
Saudi-led coalition forces arrested Muhsen Saleh Sa'doun al-Karbi at the border post between Yemen and Oman on 21 April while he was visiting relatives.
Despite some media claims that al-Karbi was a Qatari intelligence officer, his family denied this, telling The New Arab that the 43-year-old is retired and has not worked for the Qatari government.
