Israeli soldiers shot and killed a 25-year-old Palestinian in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, Gaza's health ministry said.

Fadi al-Najjar was shot dead during clashes on the Gaza border, according to health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra, with seven other protesters injured.

"A Palestinian was mortally wounded by Israeli shots during clashes on the Gaza border," he said.

An Israeli army spokeswoman told AFP that soldiers fired warning shots at Palestinians throwing rocks near the border fence, but had no knowledge of any fatalities.

At least 29 Palestinians have been killed so far in 2017. On Monday, a 21-year-old Palestinian was shot and killed in anti-police protests in a Palestinian-majority city in central Israel.

Last Friday, a 16-year-old Palestinian teenager died a day after she was shot by Israeli forces after allegedly stabbing a soldier outside a West Bank settlement.

The girl was identified by official Palestinian news agency Wafa as Nawaf Infiaat, 16, from the Jenin-area town of Yaabad.

A wave of unrest that broke out in October 2015 has claimed the lives of 267 Palestinians, 41 Israelis, two Americans, two Jordanians, an Eritrean, a Sudanese and a Briton, according to an AFP tally.
