Four members of the White Helmets killed in Syria

Four members of Syria’s civil defence force, also known as the White Helmets, were killed saving lives in Syria on Wednesday.

Those killed were identified as Abdulhamid Kerawa and Ibrahim Dayoub from Idlib and Hasan Hannan and Ihsan Dalati from Aleppo.

Some other members were also injured.

"Today remember them and please keep their families and teammates in your thoughts and prayers," said The Syria Campaign.

"These brave volunteers saved humanity many, many times... Their motto, taken from the Quran is, 'to save a life is to save all of humanity'" the organisation added.

The online streaming site Netflix released a trailer for an upcoming documentary about the White Helmets, who for years have been the first-responders to tragedy in Syria.

The White Helmets have recently received the backing of more than 130 international organisations to win the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize.

They have been recognised for saving around 60,000 people facing bombardments by the Syrian regime and Russian war planes since 2013.

The volunteers, who previously worked as bakers, tailors, engineers, pharmacists, painters, carpenters and students have pledged their commitment to the principles of "humanity, solidarity, impartiality" as outlined by the International Civil Defence Organisation.

They have grown from 20 to around 2,900 members but have lost dozens of members during rescues missions.
