A Six-year-old Palestinian girl was killed on Saturday evening after she was run over by an Israeli settler in the village of al-Khader, south of Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian ministry of health confirmed the death of Luma Mousa in the incident that took place on Highway 60 to the Israeli settlement of Efrat.

Locals reported that the child was standing in front of her house when a fast-moving vehicle struck her.

Israeli ambulance crews unsuccessfully attempted to treat the girl at the scene, according to the director of the Palestinian Red Crescent in Bethlehem, Mohammad Awad.

An Israeli police spokesperson said the girl had been killed in a "road accident," when said she had been walking across the street alone.

The police added that the vehicle's driver has turned himself in and an investigation has been launched in to the incident, the Palestinian Ma'an news agency reported.

Palestinian groups in the village of al-Khader have called for strike on Sunday in protest over the death of the young girl.
