Dozens dead after coalition bombs land on Yemeni market

At least 65 people have been killed after coalition warplanes dropped bombs on a busy marketplace in Yemen's Hajjah province.

Two missiles were launched by Saudi-led coalition forces leaving scores dead and injured, local news reports confirmed.

Victims were transferred to medical centres in nearby areas.

Witnesses on the ground told The New Arab that the scene was crowded with civilians at the time of the attack.

Authorities have not yet commented on the incident and no explanation has been specified for the strike.

A health official said the casualties were civilians and included children, adding that "the toll could rise".

Hajjah province is located in the north-west of the country, along the borders of Saudi Arabia.

Heavy clashes between Houthi rebels and coalition forces have rocked the region for years.

More than 6,100 people have been killed - about half of them civilians - since the start of the Saudi-led intervention a year ago.
