Explosion in Cairo injures three
Egyptian authorities have arrested one suspect after an explosion targeted a police convoy in Cairo, injuring three and damaging two police vehicles.
The explosive device was detonated late on Wednesday in a street in the Faisal neighbourhood of the Giza governorate, known for its ancient pyramids.
Giza security chief Ahmed Higazy said that the makeshift bomb targeted an armoured police vehicle as it passed through the busy street.
Egyptian authorities have in recent years been battling a militant insurgency in northern Sinai which has also spilled into mainland Egypt, with a series of high-profile assassinations and bombings in Cairo.
In January, nine people, including four Egyptian police officers, were killed in a bomb explosion when a police team raided a residential apartment in Giza.
The bomb detonated as experts tried to defuse it, killing and wounding members of the security forces and some civilians who were in the building.
