Dozens of soldiers have died in a bomb attack on a government military camp in Yemen's southern city of Aden on Wednesday.

The troops, loyal to President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, were gathered at the Raas Abbas base when an explosion took place, residents told The New Arab.

Speculations surrounding the attack question whether it was carried out by one of the many recruits signing up to join the force at the time of the event.

This comes just a day after an assasination attempt on the city's Governor, Aidaroos al-Zubaidy and Aden's Head of Security, Shallal Ali Shayea.

The temporary capital has seen an increase in violence amid growing security concerns.

Al Qaeda and Islamic State militants have taken advantage of 10 months of civil war in Yemen to expand their presence in Aden, where the embattled government is based.
