A number of videos have emerged on Twitter of Iraqi troops torturing young boys whilst interrogating them.

The New Arab cannot independently verify the authenticity of the footage.

The videos, posted to Twitter on 18 October, purport to show members of the People's Mobilization Units (PMU), a coalition of Iraqi militias, hitting the children with hammers.

One video shows an Iraqi soldier beat a child on the head and on the legs with a hammer whilst a crowd of people tries to intercede.

The other video shows the Iraqi soldiers asking the boy about his father before beating his legs with a hammer.

The videos are too graphic to display on this website, but links have been provided. It is uncertain if the two incidents are connected.

Amnesty International published a report earlier this week claiming that Iraqi forces had been responsible for torture in the area south of Mosul.

Reports also emerged of Iraqi soldiers harrassing and extorting money from journalists in the area south of Mosul.
