Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal arrived in Turkey on Wednesday for an official visit to discuss the latest developments in Palestine and Syria.
Meshaal is expected to meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in Ankara, as well as a number of other Turkish officials.
Meshaal recently visited Saudi Arabia, as well as meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Qatar.
A planned visit to Iran so soon after a trip to Saudi Arabia caused controversy and was cancelled.
Relations between Hamas and Riyadh had been strained during the reign of the late King Abdullah, who died in February.
Meanwhile, Iran's foreign minister, Mohammed Javad Zarif, abruptly postponed his scheduled visit to Ankara and instead headed to the Lebanese capital Beirut, without disclosing any reasons.
