Russian airstrikes on seven residential areas in the Syrian city of Idlib have killed at least 47 people.

"Seven Russian raids that hit before noon today targeted residential neighbourhoods and civilian areas in Idlib leading to the deaths of two dozen people and injuring dozens," local Syrian activist Mohammed Kirks said.

The Syria White Helmets rescue team put the death toll at 43, adding that at least 150 had also been injured.

An Al-Jazeera
correspondent, Suhaib al-Khalef, was also injured in the strikes.

According to local sources in Idlib, Russian raids hit an industrial area, a warehouse for school books, housing and a college of law.

Barrell bombs also reportedly targeted the city of Rastan in the northern countryside of Homs, killing at least two civilians.

Meanwhile, at least 10 people have been wounded in an explosion that hit a military bus in the Mazzeh residential district of western Damascus on Sunday.

The official SANA news agency said the blast was caused by a bomb.

An AFP journalist saw blood on the floor of the vehicle, which had had its windows blown out.
