Several Saudis were arrested for organising a party in Jeddah, authorities in the conservative kingdom said.

Among those arrested was the party's organiser who initially denied involvement after a video filmed at the mixed party went viral online.

The partygoers were seen drinking alcohol and dancing along to Arabic music with members of the opposite sex.

A spokesperson for Makkah police confirmed that an investigation team were able to analyse the footage to determine the location of the party.

The case has been referred to public prosecution.

Action has been taken to arrest the other participants.

The conservative kingdom prohibits the free mixing of men and women and has strict policies against the sale or consumption of alcohol within its borders.

Earlier this month, unidentified foreigners were arrested for holding a mixed party that served alcohol in the conservative capital.

In February, six women and five men were sentenced to a year and prison and received 300 lashes for hosting a party at a beachside villa.
