A prominent German content writer and travel vlogger Christian Betzmann has announced that he has converted to Islam after spending a year in Pakistan, emphasising it is a religion of peace.

"I have accepted Islam," Betzmann wrote in an Instagram post last week, after learning more about the religion during his time in the country.

"I started this channel last December and spend almost 1 year in Pakistan. During this time I met sooo many incredible people and learned a lot about the religion and the lifestyle," he said.

"Growing up in Europe, the word Islam was always connected with negativity, war, terrorism and to be completely honest, I was never a religious person before so I didn’t really care what people thought back then. My best friends were Muslims," Christian wrote.

Before his conversion at the Islamic School of Miami, Christian said he "felt good", but was also a "little nervous".

Several other prominent figures lauded his decision in the comments, including actor Zara Noor Abbas Siddiqui who wrote: "This is so beautiful. Mashallah Mashallah."

Another actor, Zoya Nasir, commented: "May Allah bless you with all that you desire and more."

An elderly woman from the US state of Wisconsin converted to Islam last week after indulging in the popular Turkish series, Dirilis: Ertugrul.

"I looked into the details [of the show], it intrigued me so I started watching it, and from the first episode I was very interested," she told Turkish state news Anadolu Agency.

Shortly after, she took to the internet to find out whether there were any mosques in her small hometown and was surprised to locate one nearby.

"So I went. I went and they were shocked to see me, I think. I became Muslim right that day," she added.
