US President Donald Trump on Tuesday congratulated a self-avowed anti-Muslim activist on winning the Republican congressional primary in the same district as his Mar-a-Lago resort.

Far-right activist Laura Loomer will contend with incumbent Democratic representative Lois Frankel for Florida's 21st congressional district on November 3.

"Great going Laura. You have a great chance against a Pelosi puppet!" Trump said in a tweet, referring to Congresswoman Frankel.

He also retweeted a number of messages of support for Loomer. Trump casts his vote in Florida's 21st district.

Loomer, who has previously described herself as a "proud Islamophobe", has been banned from a number of events and online platforms in the past, including Twitter and Facebook.

She was permenantly banned from ride-sharing apps Lyft and Uber after complaining she couldn't find a non-Muslim taxi driver.

"Someone needs to create a non Islamic form of Uber or Lyft because I never want to support another Islamic immigrant driver," she said in a tweet written before her account was deleted.

Using the hashtag #ProudIslamophobe, Loomer called for a permant ban on Muslims entering the United States. She has also said Muslims "should not even be allowed to seek positions of political office" in the US.

Loomer has written for far-right websites including InfoWars and The Rebel Media.

The congressional candidate has also targeted outspoken Democrat Ilhan Omar, spouting a debunked conspiracy theory shared in far-right circles that alleges the Somali-American married her own brother.

Loomer has shared a number of other debunked conspiracy theories, including claims that school shootings in Parkland, Florida, and Santa Fe, Texas, were staged by so-called "crisis actors".
