A 43-year-old Palestinian man was arrested by the Lebanese army after entering the country's territories by crossing over the Israeli border, a local media report said on Sunday.

Lebanese Army intelligence officers arrested the Palestinian, who successfully crossed into Lebanon after jumping over the technical fence along the southern border, a security source told The Daily Star.

Residents of the border town of Duheira apprehended him and he later turned himself in to the Lebanese army, who called in its intelligence officers to handle the case.

The man, identified by TDS as Majdi Abdelkader, is being investigated. According to the outlet, Abdelkader was previously imprisoned twice and fled from the city of Tulkarem in the West Bank. There was no further information on the exact place of imprisonment.

Rights groups have raised concerns over Israel's administrative detention system, which allows for prisoners to be held for six months at a time without charge.

Israel's prisoner population currently includes around 5,700 Palestinians, while the Jewish state has illegally occupied the West Bank since 1967 and is accused of various abuses against Palestinian civilians.
