Palestinian man killed in Tel Aviv stabbing attack

The 30-year-old, who is yet to be named, is reportedly a West Bank resident.

The attack took place in the southeast of the city by an unidentified perpetrator and found on a traffic island, according to local media.

A police statement confirmed the man suffered serious injuries in the attack which took place on Moshe Dayan Street. The man was taken to a nearby hospital, but later died.

It added that a criminal investigation was ongoing, and that it was not being treated as a terror attack.

The murder rate among the Palestinian community in Israel has spiked over recent years, sparking anger among activists.

It has been attributed to a combination of discrimination, poverty, unemployment, overcrowding in urban areas due to lack of building in Palestinian areas, and negligent policing.

The lack of policing has also allowed organised crime and an illegal firearm industry to flourish.

Seventy percent of murder cases occuring between 2014 and 2017 remain unsolved, according to the Meezaan Center, a Palestinian human rights group.

Meanwhile "price tag" attacks against Palestinians waged by right-wing Israeli activists, usually settlers, have also witnessed a recent spike.

These usually consist of vandalism and arson against Palestinians homes or organisations, or those seen as sympathetic to the Palestinian cause.
