Hamas shoots down Israeli drone over Gaza Strip

Hamas’s military wing has shot down an Israeli drone carrying out “a special mission” over the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army has acknowledged the loss of the drone.

Hamas announced on Tuesday morning that they have shot down an Israeli drone in the Gaza Strip.

Israel confirmed the loss of the drone, which was of the quadcopter type.

Hamas' military wing, Izzedin al-Qassam brigades, announced in a statement that at 1:15am on Tuesday they managed to "gain control over a Zionist drone east of Rafah" in the Gaza Strip.

The statement added that the drone was "on a special mission in the Gaza Strip, and had onboard infrared cameras and a device equipped to carry out its mission".

Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee said, "last night a small plane was shot down over the southern Gaza Strip and the incident is being investigated".

On Saturday, Israel struck Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip after an alleged launch of a Hamas drone towards Israel.

The previous day two Palestinian teenagers were shot dead by Israeli forces during Great March of Return protests.
