Vile bullies attack teenager with mental disabilities in Egypt
A sickening video of bullies beating up a teenager with intellectual disabilities in Egypt has sparked anger in the North African country, where public ignorance around mental disability is rife.
Footage filmed by the attackers of the incident, which reportedly took place in a town north of the capital Cairo, has been widely shared online.
The clip shows a 17-year-old being kicked and slapped in a Barber shop by what looks like a gang of his peers as they mock him.
The incident has sparked a public outcry, prompting police to arrest six people connected with the attack.
Out of Egypt's population of around 93 million, an estimated 14 million have some form of disability, according to local activists.
Three-quarters of them have a mental disability.
Activists are working to tackle the stigma mental disability carries – something they say is as important as providing services.
