The US-backed international coalition reportedly targeted a convoy of Syrian regime trucks in the western countryside of Raqqa, sources told The New Arab on Sunday.

A member of monitor group Raqqa is being Slaughtered Silently said that planes struck several regime military trucks in the Rusafa area, southwest of the city of Raqqa.

The convoy was heading for the city of Tabqa, which is controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), who concluded an deal with the regime to block the Turkish ground offensive.

Turkish artillery also reportedly targeted regime forces around the city of Manbij in the northeastern Aleppo countryside.

Syria's Kurdish forces on Sunday announced a deal that would see Syrian regime troops deployed near the border with Turkey, as Ankara pressed a deadly cross-border offensive that has sparked international outcry.

A source from the Syrian National Army (SNA) told The New Arab that Ankara military operation likely did not start without the Turkish-US-Russian consensus.

He pointed out that the relationship between Russia and Turkey is "very advanced", and if Moscow allows the regime to advance far into northeast Syria, it will introduce tensions to the relatiionship.

The source confirmed that the SNA moved reinforcements to the vicinity of the city of Jarablus, in anticipation of any movement by regime forces.

Meanwhile the Pentagon said President Donald Trump had ordered the withdrawal of up to a thousand troops from northern Syria - almost the entire ground force in the war-torn country - amid an intensifying Turkish assault on Kurdish forces.
