Turkish police shot and killed a suspected Islamic State member in a raid on his home last night after he failed to surrender.

Police reportedly tried to arrest 'Ahmet B.', 24, in his flat in West Ankara, after he was spotted visiting the mausoleum of the founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, on three occasions.

Anadolu reports that a substantial quantity of explosives were found at the man's home in Etimesgut, including gelignite, TNT and ammonium nitrate.

Turkey's National Intelligence Agency recently issued warnings against IS attacks in five different Turkish provinces and warned of attacks on public transport.

Three police officers were killed and eight others injured in an explosion during a separate raid on Sunday in Gaziantep, south Turkey.

Ankara authorities have banned all meetings and public gatherings until the end of November, following the increased risk of an IS attack.
